    Default Presoak vs. No soak

Many people seem to argue about presoaking pellets since that would prevent the fish from getting constipated

While some argue if you soak the pellets, it loses nutritional value i.e. some vitamins are soluable so, if pellets are soaked, fish gets only ash content, you're wasting money etc.

What do you do personally while feeding pellets or flakes to your discus?

I generally do not soak any food but soaking feed might depend on the size of the food and how fast a discus might eat. I will presoak dry foods for really small fry. I also feed in small amounts and will break flake into small bits prior to feeding.

Never had the time to pre-soak. I've had exactly one fish get constipated in 20+ years of discus keeping, and I suspect that was due to undissolved gelatin in a frozen beefheart cube. My fry do not get flakes, but I will mince beefheart for them.

I’ve never soaked pellets but I do soak the fdbw and any frozen foods.

No presoaking, I try to control by many small feedings. I know some common complaints from hobbyist with the Blue Diamond type of Discus.

What kind of complaints, Cliff? And are these recent or from awhile back as Blue Diamond genetics appears to have changed?

Interesting observation, Cliff. My recent BD's do not produce those #2 eraser size turds anymore. I wondered how much the genetics have evolved. Now I think it's because I'm not getting A-grade fish.

Thanks everyone for your replies! Never presoaking again unless needed!
