Default High TDS from Epsom salt

I have never used Epsom salt before and I used it for the first time at 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons. I noticed my TDS jumped from 138 to 266!

Should I be worried? Or is this fine?

This is normal for either salt to raise TDS. It will not harm the fish.

I was thinking of adding epsom salt monthly as a preventative...Is this a good idea?

Discus will survive at 800 to 900 TDS. My tanks average 200 TDS day in and day out. The fish are healthy, eat, and spawn.

    Well that's great.

Do you get high hatch rates too at 200?

    Yes, the eggs hatch fine.

You are welcome but why would you do that? I do not add anything to the water unless I need too.

I had no purpose really, just thought of adding it once a month as a laxative...I guess it's unnecessary...is it?

Not needed unless you suspect a problem

I have a pair of like minded fish working at spawning today with TDS or 195 and pH 7.6.

Sorry I didn't want to extend the thread but I faced an issue...

After few hours of epsom salt in the tank, all my discus settled at the bottom of the tank...all stressed up

I tested the water and API ammonia test kit showed a strong green!! I changed 50% of the water...I will change again shortly..

I have no idea what happened...could there be something added to the salt? They look like plain white crystals of magnesium sulfate to me....
