Does anyone else use corner matten filters for discus grow out tanks? I switched to the corner matten filter a year ago and really like them.

I don't Bud but it looks very neat & tidy. Air driven? What are the strips and how did you decide then to hold the foam in place?
Nice discus too mate. What are they?

Yes air driven. As mentioned Swiss Tropicals sells the corner filter but because they are expensive I only buy the lift tube from them. They do not use a air stone in the lift tube but have designed them well. I buy 30PPI foam from Amazon or Ebay for around $15. This will make 2 corner filters.(40 gallon breeder) The white strips are just drywall vinyl corners siliconed in place. You can buy a 8 ft. piece drywall corner for $1.50 at Lowes or Menards. I have been told you can paint them with Krylon fusion paint for plastic if the white corner bothers you. I am fine with the way it is. Have the proper size air pump and air line to lift tube and you are good to go after install.

You can hide the heaters behind the foam. I clean the lift tube every month and pull the foam and rinse in aquarium water every 6 months. Not much maintenance with large foam surface for water quality and provides a neat clean appearance.

The discus are german fire red and santarum. Setting up another 40 breeder for the fire reds.

Thanks. I live about 100 miles North of you on I75. I was out of breeding for awhile but have been raising german discus this time around. Waiting for pairs to form and have some fun. The strains I am working with are santarum, fire reds and want to get white and red leopards from Hans to grow out for more pairs. I am also raising 3 strains of angels out for some more pairs. The extra angels will be sold once my pairs form.

Looks like something you have to put together as a new tank and not an add-on. Yeah?

You are correct. The tank needs to be empty for 48 hours to let the silicone to set up.

The two red discus are the largest of a group of five. Those two are in with the santarems for grow out. The santarems came from Tom(Coralbandit) and the fire reds from Hans. I can try and get better pics of the group as they have grown since my last thread.

Juwel in most of their tanks have a corner filter. I would say it’s quite handy and easy to maintain.
