Use the biological media from the Ehiem and transfer them to the Sun Sun cannister. You need to sterilize the Sun Sun cannister to avoid cross contamination...do u have hydro sponge filters...tell us more about yr set up.
Hi new to the forum and discus. I've had aquariums now for about 3 years and just started keeping discus. I've had an issue tonight while cleaning one of my canister filters(eheim ecco pro 300) while removing the lid to clean it the canister cracked. I've also got another external filter in the aquarium it's a sun sun 302. My question is will my discus be ok till I get a replacement canister? I've taken the trays out and placed them in the tank till a new one arrives. I've currently got 6 new discus in the tank there about 3 months old will they be ok or is there something I should do till the new canister comes. Any help appreciated.

I am confused. The way I read this is that both the eheim and the sun sun both were on this tank. If so, no cross contamination issue, If not please clarify your set up.
I am also not sure if you are concerned about the loss of mechanical filtration or biological or both.
As far as water quality, how big is the tank and how big are the discus? Three months meaning about 2.5 inches?
Good eyes Don,my apologies misread the post.

Frances, not really sure what is up. We really need more info to comment further. Dan, we are happy to help but a little more info would probably improve the specificity of advice given.
Yes correct both filters are connected to the tank. It's a eheim 240 litre. Discus are about 2.5inch there in the tank about 11 days.My question is will one filter be adequate till my other is fixed? Sorry for the confusion
Just to clarify I have all the media trays from the broken canister in the tank itself so the bacteria doesn't die.
Can the crack be fixed with silicone?
You should be fine but to be sure I would check NH3 levels every 12 hours x 2-3 times. In theory you should have no issues, but if you have a "mini-cycle" and ammonia starts to climb, increase your water changes.
Probably but not gona chance it I've a new one ordered anyway.
Thanks for the reply guys I'm sure to have plenty more questions in the future
Canister on my Pennplax like this just cracked, so I`m thinking the same, will it affect the discus? have you replaced it? How long did it take?
No matter what happens, always try to be conscious.
His last post was a year ago. Same questions for you. Size of tank, number and size of Discus, WC schedule. If you change enough water you don't even need filtration. Many farms in Asia change 100% twice daily and use no filtration at all.
