Well it’s going on 7 days now with nothing changing. Waters turning green . Will give it at least another week (weather allowing). Next question. This tank is 5’ long and I plan on a 6’ one. Can I make a new stand (not to happy with what it came with) that’s 6’ long and still put a 5’ tank on it? I guess this is an engineers question. Because the tank doesn’t reach the end supports will the stand still hold? Will the wood base distribute the weight? Thanks

    I am not an engineer.
However, in my mind, if you use 3/4 or 1" plywood and good bracing, it should be fine.
Just my 2 cents and that is what I would do.
But remember, I am a nut.

BTW, I have a tank suffering from green water too. Understocked, more filters than any of the others and less light. By a window but no direct sunlight. By the 3rd day, if no WC you cannot see the background. The one in the shop has direct light, way overstocked and I feed them like crazy, crystal clear at all times! Go figure.
I installed a UV yesterday to see if that helps. Gonna purchase a Phosphate test kit soon and see if it is eating on that.

A U/V light will clean it up within two days. Of course, after youve check nitrates and phosphates with will likely be okay.

You are right once again Willie. Crystal clear. Not even slime on the glass to clean this morning.

Is it best to leave the UV lights on all the time or just when they are needed?

I read that it is good to replace the bulbs every 6 months or so.

My GKM has been running for 3 days now.
I have NEVER had an aquarium this clear!!!
Been a fish keeper since I was about 10.
NEVER have I seen water sparkle like this.
Fish colors are unreal in this acrylic tank.
I am almost wondering now if it is too bright...
