I've had my discus almost two weeks now and I've been looking for decent foods that they will take to and meet their nutritional needs. It has not been going well.
For logistical reasons, live food is a no go. So I'm limited to pellet, frozen, and flake... and I an now convinced that my discus are trolling me.
Frozen mysis shrimp? No interest
Frozen blood worms? Nah.
Hikari discus bio gold? Meh.
Hikari micro pellets? Not a chance.
Hikari vibra bites? Nope.
$5 flake food? Feeding frenzy the likes of which I have only seen with my mbuna cichlids. They absolutely tear into the earthworm flake in a way that makes me wonder if I might lose a finger or two. Brine shrimp flake is also relished, but they will absolutely gorge themselves on earthworm flake if I let them. I've tried mixing in the other foods with it, but they just eat around the pellets and frozen food... and then ignore it.
Any thoughts? Are earthworm flakes reasonable for discus long term? I can't get blackworms around here so I haven't been able to try that.
