    Default Alternative to Nitrofurazone

    Hi All,

Jehmco used to carry Nitrofurazone powder, but it's listed under their website as discontinued by the manufacturer. I know Furan-2 by API has the same active ingredient, but I'm looking for something that is a little more economical (similar to how they carry larger quantities of Metro). Furan-2 has always been my "last ditch effort" to try and help a sick fish. Does anyone have a preferred alternative that is equally as effective?

    Thanks!

    Thanks for those links Francis!

I've never heard of AngelsPlus before. I assume that they're a fairly reputable dealer?

Angels Plus is a great place to deal with. I would get some soon though, I don't know if anyone will have it before too long. Most suppliers are out. I got mine from here because Angels Plus was out at the time.

Thanks for that information Brian, I was planning on getting some as a "just in case", since I've already done the same with some other medications like Metro.

Placed my order with Angels Plus so I hope to get some soon.

FYI, Kanamycin is also getting very hard to come by as well.

They have a good variety of medications on Aqua bid. I have had good results with them. Mvp is fast timely and cost is fair.

    Thanks for all the info!

I would assume that Kanamycin would be similar to Erythromycin, in the sense that they're both anti-bacterial treatments and they're pretty much interchangeable?

Erythromycin is most effective against gram-positive bacteria and is not very effective in a bath treatment.

Actually, a good substitute for kanamycin is neomycin. Neo is a little better at external issues and kana is a little better at internal, but they are very similar and Jehmco sells the neomycin. The exact similarities or differences are beyond my ability to translate, but Cary Strong told me about these and I believe him, lol...
