    Default Len's Comparisons (For Fun)

With me still being jobless due to Covid I have found myself looking for more side gigs in photography. Last week I did 3 photoshoots and I noticed I mainly used my 24-70 & 70-200. So this morning I went to dig for my old lenses and decided to test them out with my flash setups to see how they would behave. I had honestly forgot how much I love my 50 1.2. It was originally a Minolta mount lens but I swapped it out to an A-mount lens a long time ago. The lens has to be over 30 years old now and while it may not be the best lens for all occasions, especially due to the yellow cast, it certainly does well with flare shots.

Here are some examples of each:

Here is the Minolta at 2.8 against the sun:

The Sigma 50 1.4 at 2.8 with same settings

Lastly, the Tamron 90 2.8 shot wide open. I had to step back to try to get the same framing:

For product photography the Tamron certainly takes the cake considering it is first and foremost a Macro lens.

    Here are the lenses themselves:

Lens shots were shot with 2 Profoto B1's

If any of you are interested, some of my favorite shots from the recent photoshoots. 3 locations, two models. Some shot with 3 Profoto B1's. Some with continuous lights and a few with no flash (natural light only)

Hi Ricardo, a nice photoshoot you had with an interesting model and location. I have heard having a 50mm lens (called the niffty 50) in your bag is a good thing, nice all around lens. Which 50 do you prefer and why?

Actually, this is funny but I hadn't shot with that lens in so long (the Minolta) that I forgot it was not a 50 but a 58mm. Not a huge deal but wanted to correct my mistake.

A 50mm is invaluable on a full frame camera in my opinion because it replicates the naked eye more accurately. The Sig 50 is one that I can easily throw in the bag and only that lens for general all around shots throughout a family day out. Of course my 24-70 offer more flexibility with the zoom but a prime will always be sharper than a zoom. Additionally, a prime always makes it so that you have to think about your shot a little more which is a ritual I quite enjoy. You need to zoom with your legs, not the lens. Of course there are times that zooming with your legs simply isn't an option lol. There are pros and cons for everything.

either way, I love all my lenses and they all have a reason to be in the bag (for the most part lol).

Here are a few product shots I took with the Tamron. You can see that this lens is really sharp when stopped down:
