Yes, a big WC to get rid of the dead decaying parasites in the water. Re-dose with Metro for the entire tank volume. Remember the correct dosage is twice what is recommended on the label and treatment should be for a full 12 days.

thank you
If sunlight reaches your tank fairly directly during any part of the day it might be a consideration re what I read above.
Just treat when sunlight doesn't hit the tank. Metro doesn't have potency for long in water. That's why treatment lasts for so long. Treating for hex is for sure a chore.

Though I doubt that this will change anyone's approach on this forum
Problem is discus usually stop eating when hex becomes an issue. My experience is 12-14 days in the water column. Mine started eating again in about 4 or 5 days. Never tried the food mix with meds; probably the most efficient and effective route.
I was ignoring this post as the information needed was given, however in light of all the comments i think i will insert my thoughts here.
Who cares if the medicine is light soluable? Any treatment given is best given in dark conditions since this reduces stress for the fish.
You all make such a big deal and have these pissing contests to see who knows the most while this person is only worried about his fish. Its disgusting.
I sit and read these posts. Maybe instead of criticizing each others beliefs you should stick with your own opinion instead of attacking someone elses. The OP can then choose by common sense whose information to go with.
Grow up, geez

Btw i treat hex with high PH
Hey Tammy, chill out. I read through the entire post and while I saw differences in opinion I missed the pissing match.

DAMN... well, I definitely learned not to get in a d--- measuring contest with James re: meds! Sorry, but that was awesome... he only pulled that card out to cut to the point. Love it. But also love it because all of us who aren't SMEs mean well but can only share what we've come across reading or what not.
I only now ask of James,... to crack the code on creating a chemical that will help my wife admit when she's wrong... without her adding a "...but..." statement afterwards (kidding... ... .... not kidding)

I'm going to start treating my whole tank for hexamita with metronidazole. I'm planning to treat 1 gram/20 gallons daily for 10 days per Gabe Posada's recommendation on his Wattley discus website. In terms of water changes, are we talking siphoning the substrate or does hexamita live in the water column as well and large water changes? I ask because 120 gal daily water changes will be a lot of water changes! Thanks!
The reason for the large WCs is because the waste from the dead hex organism foul the water.

Ok- I’ll do it but my wife isn’t going to be happy. I have lots of drift wood and plants so it’s going to be fun. How soluble is the granulated form of metronidazole? I dumped it in my tank and I’m hoping the granules dissolve further
