The Chuck Davis pleco story. Chucks not know by discus keepers because he doesn't keep discus. He's in his 70's now and has been keeping fish since he was a kid. His main interests in fish are catfish and plecos. When he was younger, he was president of the North Jersey Aquarium Society and on the board of the ACA.

So when he lived in North Jersey Chuck and a group of friends use to travel to the various fish shows in surrounding states and enter fish for competition. Chuck had a large pleco that use to win a lot. Well he shows up at a show and goes to take his prized pleco out and it's dead. Chuck happens to be a very funny comical person. So he thinks for a moment and then puts the dead fish in the tank turns it sideways and spreads out its fins. He ended up taking first place.

When the show was over he took it out of the tank and put it in a trash can. People were saying what are you doing? Chuck says it's dead, it's been dead the whole show.

Man I just got an L200 green phantom pleco and the thing is stunning! I’m staring at it more than my discus now!

You have a nice set of pleco strains I like the L173s !
I was never into plecos, but man I love these plecos so much lol.
I now have L46(successfully breeding), L333 raised these for 2 years and now I'm getting fry from them, L134s (bred only once but no luck and they haven't bred again), L397, L184 and long fin super reds ...

Maybe I should add some pleco to my 190g tank. I checked on my local store and they have L044, L144, L236xL333, L333 and L397.

I read a lot of stories about pleco attached to discus, fighting for food or growing 2 feet long.

Is any of listed would be compatible with discus and won’t overtake the tank?

I'm not an expert but I suspect the phenomena is rare and mostly associated with larger species.
The species you listed generally stay under 4-5 inches.
Im sure there are more experienced out there

One reason I've stayed away from plecos, except for bristlenose, is that they've been seen to suck on discus slime. In the past, I've seen circulate scars on adult discus. More recently, I've reintroduced various plecos to my discus tank and have not run into the same problem despite daily observations. One possibility is that I tend to keep small plecos with large discus, and large plecos with small discus.

But I also have a tank of very large discus with 6" plecos (L204 Panaqolus albivermis) mainly due to a miscalculation on tank availability. There has been no interaction between the two species, likely because they are both fed very, very well.
At my age, everything is irritating.

As long as you do your research and find a pleco that stays relatively small (6” and under) you should be good depending on tank size. The availability of plecos varieties has come a long way and some can be more expensive than discus. They are known to live very long so I think if you find one you absolutely love then it’s worth it. Just please make sure you have the space for it and a hiding space. As long as they have their own space I’ve had no issues.

Is there a recommended pleco forum? I have L 471 dwarf snowballs. I've been thinking about dedicating a tank to them. I have 4. Not sure what they need but any fry would be gobbled up in their community tank.

I hear you. I got a group of L201 Orinco Angel as just a side project and I have really come to like them. I really couldn't tell you why but I find them fascinating.

I am looking for some long fin super reds right now to get a group going.

One thing I recently did was add a wave maker near the bottom back of the tank. Directed at the caves.
Now all the plecos frolic in the current.
Great way to finally see them

I'd like to get some of the dwarf varities for my smallish community tanks (20 gallon longs). The pretty dwarf varieties (less than 4") are spendy.

Those L201s, do they really get 6"? Do they really require a hardness between 6-10 dKH?
I haven't found a spotted type pleco that stays at 4" or less...

L201's grow between 5" - 6". I got mine from a local breeder. My tap water comes out of the Mississippi River and his comes from an aquifer, so I don't think they're sensitive to water hardness.

I got these wicked looking wild caught L204's Panagolus albinermis from snook21 about a month ago just for their looks. (Stock picture)

To my surprise, they're completely docile and living in a 40 Breeder with some large discus. I watch these guys very carefully everyday and there's been no feeding off the slime coat.
