    Default Older discus breeding

If u have a pair that is 4 years old and just now they are starting to breed the three times they have laid eggs I ended up with a few wrigglers that never lived very long. Does it take them a couple more spawns to get it right or are they to old to produce good fry

4 year olds should be fertile assuming they were ever fertile. Some males are never super fertile but at 4 years old that should not be a factor. What’s your TDS? That is more likely the issue in my opinion. As for taking a few more times to get it right, that’s never clear. Some parents get it right fast and some never get it. Only time and patience will answer that question..
Try to get your TDS around 80-100 ppm and that should help get better hatch rates. The PH is less important than TDS but the 2 often work together and one reflects the other.
Good luck and keep us posted.
    Respectfully, Matt

4 years old is not too old, I had one pair spawning with success at both at the age of 8. I also agree with Matt that some males are never super fertile.
