    Default Is this Hex?

    Hi all,

Is this hex that I am seeing? It has not been eating well but appears to be good otherwise. It swims with the group not hiding, just not have the appetite it used to.
Should I start treatment with metro? Thanks in advance.

Only microscope analysis of the feces can tell if it is hexamita,.... You would only need to worry if it was mucus looking and long, segmented or not to treat discus with Hexamita, metronidazole the recommended dosage is 500 mg per 10 gallons for 12 days and with a 50% WC before the each dose. Tank temp is up at 92-93. Perhaps some experienced people could chime in.

Not really sure, but it is gone and I have started metro treatment and raised temp to 91F

This could be hex and it could be just an abnormal fecal matter. I've also seen feces like this that is associated with round worms. If you don't see this consistently then it may not be much to worry about. Heat is a good way to begin and metro won't hurt anything so I would stay the course. If it continues then a microscope will confirm. If round worms are resent then fenbendazole (Panacur) is a good treatment and should only be fed in food. I it's not eating then Flubendazole is effective as a water added treatment but can have potential side affects such as tail standing.

Thank you Brian, I will continue the heat/metro treatment. That was the only day/time I see pooping like that on that discus. All others poop I see are dark black.
