Ok moved into a 30 I was using as a qt tank. Wigglers first but some were swimming already so lost those. Parents next. Guess I need help on how to do this. Think I scared the hell out of them and me. Took about 20min to find the fry. But they did so now I’m waiting. May have a problem with the wood. As in its also dark. Now hoping they attach!!

Ok they are free swimming but not attaching. Seems the parents are grabbing them and putting them back where they started.

You can pull out the drift wood on Friday, all of the fry should be free swimming.

Thanks Cliff. But I just pulled the driftwood and lowered the water level. All free swimming but none attaching. Male did not like the move. Looked kind of beat up this morn. I changed half the water and he’s looking better.C4AF70A4-3F84-4364-860F-C3A5901F70A3.jpg

Out day 2 of swimming. But not attaching. Removed everything but sponge filter. Lower the tank water. But still nothing. I added some first bites and I have a fry tank. Should I move to a fry tank?

Add Methylene Blue to the water to help the parents stand out to attract the fry. Also cover the sponge filter with a cheese cloth leaving no dark objects in the tank. The fry can become lost, often stuck in the corner of the tank, or attracted not to the parents, but the sponge filter. If this continues for a long period of time (24 hours+) the fry will begin to starve and die off. It is also extremely hard to perform a water change with fry scattered about the tank. For this reason stop feeding the parents 24 hours after the hatch and make sure to keep the tank in pristine condition.

Ok I’m at the 24hr mark. I’ve changed water twice so far and about to do another. Seems if the fry try to attach the parents shake them off. I have a small fry tank that hangs on to the main. Should I try to put them in there? Also I added first bites but no clue if they did or can eat that. Have about 10 still swimming around.

Nice, Tom! Try not to disturb the environment as much. It’s normal for them not to eat as much. Mine did not eat for over two weeks. I would also dim the light of the tank. I ran mine at 10% until there was firm attachment, then gradually increased it to about 40%. Sometimes brighter light causes the fry to become disoriented and not attach. Hoping they will this time. Beautiful discus.

You could make yr protective guard using chicken wire from Home Depot.

Here’s video of Hans making a egg guard.
