Have you shown nitrates at all? You should not have 0 nitrates with a cycled filter and your water change schedule??

Tank looks great! Do the discus and angels get along ok? Very unusual to 0 ammonia and 0 nitrates. Even after a 20% water changes you nitrates would never go back to 0. Is your kit used by date still good? Thanks for posting the pics

Nice pick up Dan. But do these kits really expire? I’ve got one from 03 that tests the same as one I bought a year ago. 03 one doesn’t have an expiration date. May be he’s just not shaking the nitrate solution enough. You have to really shake that second bottle to bind whatever’s in there to get a good test.

Thanks very much for the support. I never thought of shaking the bottles. I will from now on. The kit expires in 2025. I am testing now and will re post the results.

Not necessarily. I have one heavy planted tank ... I checked recently NO3 as I changed water a month ago. Readings are = 0.0

But for this discus tank you are absolutely right. Not so many plants, so readings should by greater than 0.

For discus 20ppm is usually the limit. But if your changing water daily or a few times a week you shouldn’t have nitrate problems.

Looks like you're around the 5ppm mark which is great. I would keep doing what you're doing!
