    Default Possibly HITH?

    Hello everyone, here goes:

When I first moved my wild discus into their new, bigger aquarium 8 months ago, one my fish got a little scratch right above its eye, which I assumed would heal eventually.

The aforementioned wound never went away, and over the past month I noticed that it started to get deeper whilst also noticing a couple of "craters" forming on both sides of the fish's head

Assuming it might have been Hexamita, I used Esha's eshaHEX for the duration of 3 days as indicated on the label.

    Tank/Water

11 wild discus and 20 Brochis splendens in a 160g aquarium

    ~30% twice a week W/C

The system has been running for about 8 months with a sand bottom.

    Parameters and water source;

    - temp 82F

    - ph 7

    - ammonia reading 0

    - nitrite reading 0

    - nitrate reading ~10

No livestock has been added in a very long time

The fish are fed a variety of discus pellets, flakes, spirulina pellets, and the occasional frozen artemia/daphnia.

The fish is as energetic as ever, still eats enthusiastically, and has shown no change in behaviour. It's just these wounds that are concerning me. The only unusual thing I could possibly add is that the fish always had very beautiful and log pectoral fins that have for some reason rotten away. None of the other fish in the aquarium have shown any similar symptoms.

Thank you all for your help in advance

I’ve havnt kept wild since that was all that was out there. So not quite sure if there’s a difference in keeping them. In my opinion your choices are to up your water changes or put that guy in a qt tank add salt at 1 tbs per 10g and change water daily. Hith is usually a water quality thing or food being fed. Are you feeding blood worms?

These guys have only ever been fed FDBW but that was a really long time ago. The only issue with the water changes is that I can't use my tap water as it's close to 9.5 pH which is most definitely too much for the wilds. I filter the water through my R/O unit but the issue is that it takes a while to get ~300L of purified water...

Being the others are fine I’d move it to a qt a heal it by itself. Good luck!

HITH is treated with metro, the white spots on the forehead are going to fall off forming a crater or hole.
