    Question Strain ID Plz

    138112626_10158101438262749_6310018620214280989_n.jpg

Reading from Left to Right, 4 & 5 have paired up (this pic was taken maybe 6 months ago.)

Group was a random batch from a breeder, not LFS.

They look like a brilliant turquoise and a snakeskin.

    Hi Cliff,

Thanks. I agree that 4 is likely a brilliant turquoise. I think that 6 is the snakeskin (far right), 5 looks more like being a red/brown turquoise.

Number 1 is the intriguing one - far left - looks like it could be a chequerboard.

It's great to be back in the hobby after a long break

    Cheers

5 has fine scribbles on faces which is consistent with a snake skin variety. 1, 2 and 6 are all pigeon blood varieties. 3 & 4 are both turks, I agree that 4 is a brilliant turk

Interesting, I wouldn't have considered 5 a snakeskin... it's closer to a wild caught red or a hybrid of one.
6 is definitely a snakeskin.. surprised that you'd think 1,2 and 6 were pigeon bloods... 3545775_Brown-RedJacarecappa_0-600x400.jpg

5 is a snake skin for sure; it has more than 9 bars. Closer to 14 bars.

Look for stress bars, pattern, body color, pepper and eye color to determine type of discus.******

Snakeskins are characterized by their very fine-line patterning in the face and body, as well as having 10 - 14 bars on the body (though there are 9-bar snakes and pigeon snakes which break those rules and are exceptions).
Leopards have larger striation on the face and 9 bars.

IMO Photo 1 and 2 are pigeon based discus, photo 3 & 4 are Turquoise discus , photo 5 Snakeskin and photo 6 also pigeon based didcus.
