    Default Potential Fungus Issue

    Problem

    1. Please explain the problems with your fish. When did you notice the problems and did anything unusual happen that you think started them?
I noticed some white fuzzy growth on two discus. I'm a little paranoid because of some reading I did on diseases and just want a second opinion before I proceed with medicating and some advice on what medication to use if needed.

    2. Symptoms (i.e. turning dark, excess slime, not eating, clamped fins, flashing, darting, clamped gills, white/yellow/green poop, hiding, headstanding or tailstanding, white on tips of fins, rotting or fungus, blisters/white zits on fish, bloated, cloudy eyes, wounds).
Something that looks sort of like the start of fungus on two fish. They are all eating.

    3. What medications/ treatments have you already tried and what were the results. Include dosage and duration of treatment.
    None

    Tank/Water

    4. Tank size and ages, numbers and sizes of fish.
90G , 12, 3-3.5in discus (I am planning to split the group once they get bigger)

    5. Water change regime (What percentage and how often).

    60% daily

    6. How long has tank been running? Is it bare bottom? If you have substrate, what type and how deep is it?

Tank has been running for 3-4 months. Bare bottom.

    7. Do you age your water? If you do for how long and what is the ph swing.

    I don't age the water.

    8. What type/brand water conditioner do you use? Do you add it to the tank or aging barrel? How much do you use?

Seachem Prime, dose according to package.

    9. Parameters and water source;

Note: Water Parameters are important in diagnosing problems within a tank. If you don't own test kits for the following information, you can purchase them, test your parameters and post this info as soon as possible.

    - temp 85.5

    - ph 7.4

    - ammonia reading 0 ppm

    - nitrite reading 0 ppm

    - nitrate reading 5-10 ppm

What type of water or combinations of water sources do you use? If it is an RO/tap/well water mix, please list percentages in the mix.

    - well water 0%

    - municipal water 100%

    - RO water 0%

    10. Any new fish, plants or inverts added recently.

The entire group of discus was added last week.

    11. Please tell us what you feed your fish and how often. This can be critical information for solving the problem so be as specific as you can.

    Five light feedings a day

    1. freeze dried black worms
    2. frozen bloodworms
    3. Tetra granules
    4. Tetra granules
    5. freeze dried black worms

    12. Include any pictures or videos you have which shows the symptoms. If you can't add them to this post, please provide a link to them.

Ok those are pimples. Water changes will make them disappear. 50% ever other day and they should be gone in 3 changes .

Guess I should have read the whole thing. How many discus? Could just be stress from new arrival. Keep up the water changes and they should go away. What are you water readings from the tap?

Thanks for the reply. I have 12 in there currently. Planning to remove some to another tank once they get bigger. Thought it would be better to grow them up together in case pairs are formed.

    The tap readings are:
    ammonia 0
    nitrite 0
    nitrate 0
    pH 7.5

Please check to see if you have a pH swing. Over time large daily swing can cause things like that. Your goal should be to have incoming water the same pH as the water in the tank.

Fill a bucket with tap water and check the pH.
Put a bubbler in the bucket and let it bubble for 12 hrs
Check the pH again and let me know if the reading the same or if it's higher or lower and by how much.

So just an update the growths did go away after the next days water change!
I did the pH swing test and the reading was the same of 7.5 after aging the water.

Not aging isn't your problem. it seems that a good WC has solved your problem. I have no clue why your fish had those disturbing white spots.
