    Default Discus aggression and Feeding

    Hi,

I have 5 juvenile discus. I've had them for about a week. The tank is a 55g and also contains 2 blue rams and a bristle-nose pleco.

I've observed some aggression, especially at feeding time. I understand that this is normal and they are establishing a pecking order.

Yesterday, for the first time, I noticed one discus that did not get any food at feeding time. Is this also normal and will it work itself out in time? Or, do I need to do something for this fish?

    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hello Steve.
    Yes, this is very normal.
If it is only one day, one feeding, I would not be alarmed.
You can add food to several areas so the alpha fish can not hoard all the food to its self and you can spot feed to the weakest fish.
A tank divider can be used as a last resort but this only really helps to let a fish get stronger or larger. It still needs to fight for its fair share.
    Good luck, keep us posted.
    Take care, Matt

I have never had a problem with this. This is absolutely normal behavior.

I would be more worried if they weren't doing that. Most of my fishes have that behavior.
