Default Very bad pet store discus

So I went to a pet store yesterday looking for fish food.
While I was there I took the opportunity to check out their fish like I normally do when I go to a new store.
I was very upset at what I saw to say the least.
    These fish were for sale.
    Not under observation.
    Not being treated.
Not in the back room but out on full display. And they must have been proud of them as they were asking for “proud of them” prices.
There’s a lot I wanted to say but I just left knowing I didn’t want to end up in jail and that I’d never go back.
    Them poor fish.

Disgraceful. Thanks for leaving the shop and posting the pics.

I want to out the shop and post their name but I think anyone who visits this site would never buy fish like that unless they were trying to save them.
In 30 plus years of keeping discus I have never seen a fish that emaciated. Two were that way and the fins., Oh my God. You could see the bones. The flesh was burned or rotted that far back. I was sick to my stomach.

Those are pretty rough but not uncommon for a LFS which doesn't have a clue

Wow that's sad. This is common for the pet stores in my area as well. I'm very selective about the stores I sell my discus to because they always end up this way. I'd rather cull them than see wither away and die a slow death in a store that has no idea how to care for them.

IMO this is much more common than you could imagine.

I once sold a batch of 2" discus to my local fish store. They went into a 20 Gal long with 1"+ gravel at 74F. Every week I went in, they would look thinner and thinner because the store doesn't feed. That was the last time I sold discus to a LFS.
At my age, everything is irritating.

I guess I’m lucky living in a smaller town. We only have one mom and pops store left and he only carries fish you would never see in the chain store. If you can find the same fish in both stores, a local breeder brought it in. At least then it’s higher quality and healthy.
No $180 Razorbacks or the even rarer half finned discus.
