back in the Amazon. In addition to wild discus, you may also keep tetras, dwarf cichlids, corydoras, L-number plecos and many other species from that region.

    Part I

    Part II

Very important to all of us. The Winnipeg City Council is considering strict regulations on pet care. Although the initial proposal does not cover fish, banning any wild caught animals is key to these rules. The first set of regulations could come into effect as early as January, 2022. Here in Minnesota, the local Department of Natural Resources is running surveys - presumably to define future regulatory proposals.

Make sure your local is informed. An informed aquarium industry is a powerful one.
At my age, everything is irritating.

It gets to the point when the normal environment of a species is being threatened so much that extension of species is possible. IMO if you want to breed wilds and you manage to find good quality ones you should let them pair up and spawn and place the offspring in the hands of people who want to do the same. We're lucky with Discus actually. Newbies generally start with the flashy domestic strains.

No clue why we don’t see home bred sold here. On the Facebook site someone’s got fry pics daily. But still never see them trying to get rid of the fry.
As to wilds for me I don’t get it. I’ve no interest at all. I only see them being sold at local pet stores for unbelievable prices and they all end up looking like the local discus in that other thread. I just don’t see the interest it’s like a trend. “Oh you have to have wilds”!! Nope not for me .
In NYC a few years back they stoped the keeping of many odd creatures. Mostly wild caught. Give it time and they’ll stop wild fish too.

Some of us have mostly kept wilds. As a kid I have always been drawn to wild critters so when I started to keep discus wilds were an easy choice. The behaviors are fascinating. One could argue that the behaviors should be the same but I have found that to not be true (granted this is based on a small sample). I am finding behavior differences even in F1 from wilds. One example is the use reverse bars used by wild discus.

Local Pet stores only wants to pay five dollars for 2 incher this might be in store credit, for domestic type Discus and one dollars for wild bred.
The hobbyist are better selling at a local fish club auction.
