I did cage the eggs but when I cage I generally drip Meth Blue over the eggs before I put the cage on. The eggs were fewer this time but after I caged them they darkened like they are supposed to do. But they still fungused. It's about time for the pair to do it again. This time I'll do it the way that it has worked for me in the past. It is the weirdest thing for something what was once easy peasy to become difficult to achieve. Heck, all I want at this point to see babies on their parent's sides. For someone who has been keeping discus and breeding for 22 years this should not be so difficult.

I know your problem, Liz... you hung out with me too much and my "Danish Luck" rubbed off on you (... it ain't bad luck... but it isn't good... it's just weird with a few dashes of frustrating)

I'm not sure if this is round 3 or round 4 with this pair but finally success! I got a wiggler. I kid you not...one wiggler. The male must still be a little young.

The pair had one wiggler the last time. I knew that they were young. When they spawned this time, I pulled the cone dribbled Meth blue over the eggs, put back in and cage. The old pair that I had given up on, taken to the pet store and brought back home kept spawning regularly as they always had. This time both pairs spawned at the same time so I pulled their cone did the meth blue, put it in the cage with the pair in RO with caged eggs.

BOTH batches were cared for by both parents. I had to get over this success before I talk about it in front of what I teasingly refer to as "the entire Discus world". This drought of breeding success had gone on for a long time but the gods didn't let me die of thirst. I just couldn't make myself give up.

The old pair I had given up on produced a large spawn I think 100 plus kids. The young pair did better this time. They produced 9 wigglers. The old pair's kids are more bunched together and the new pair's kids are spread out. It makes it look like the new pair's kids are the less vigorous. It sure would me nice to have some of the first pair's whose mama is from Al survive. I want to see what I get the outcross to another line.

Liz, sounds to me that the older pair is stronger than the new pair, might try switching males the next time around.

That's not a bad idea, Cliff. The young pair will be busy for a while caring for kids before I breed them again. I'll post pics if I get attachment. There is no more beautiful sight than babies grazing on the parents.

Pat, I almost believed that I would never be able to breed Discus again but I just couldn't give up. I can't wait until I can find which of these fry are all my breeding and which are the cross of my male to Al's female.

Mom jumped out and committed suicide during the night. I feel sick over it.

No she didn't...I sure am stupid in the mornings...Mom had been harassing dad more and more. Dad never fought back but I dedided to take her out and move her to the community tank because I was afraid that one of the two might get disgusted with the situation and jump. I can't believe that I have been feeling like a failure and thinking that nobody had bad luck like I have bad luck. I got myself into a state of depression just because my thinker doesn't get to working until I've been up and about for a bit.

Finally got my old photo software installed, the one I know how to use. Here's dad with the kids at 10 days of age.
