    Default Discus habit

    Hi,

My question is why do my discus all congregate in a quarter of the tank? I have 13 discus assorted sizes in a 225 gallon 6 foot tank. The fish are all happy they eat out of my hand and will follow me around the tank. But they literally live on top of each other. I would like to understand the behavior. Thank You. Tony

Are you sure that tank's 6' long? I'd swear it looks more like 4'? There's not much 'cover' for the discus to hide from each other so they just hang out together.

Well he states that its a 225. I think he meant 125. 4’x2’x2’. But it could just be the way the picture is taken and be 6’x2’x30”. Discus look fine. Do you feed on that side? As long as your filtration is good and your doing water changes of around 50% twice a week (yes I know some will not approve of this ) your discus should be fine. I’ve seen tanks that size with 20+ in them.

Hi Vvboes, please measure the dimensions of your tank so we can determine it's size. Are the fish collecting on the same side of the tank you feed them? Also sit in front of the tank and just observe for a while. Have your head about the same level as the bottom of the tank. The idea is to observe without you affecting your fish behavior. Also try the same with the lights off. Let me know your observations.

I think the decor of the tank is fine. Maybe place driftwood to one side but there is no back to this tank so they must feel very exposed. I'd place a light blue back on the tank.

If you want to know the exact size and volume of the tank, this might help. http://reef.diesyst.com/volcalc/volcalc.html

If there's a tv on that side of the room maybe their watching it. Is that a discus wedged in the rock under the rest of the discus? Also all the other fish [except cory's] are on the other side.

It’s written right in the sand!! Little guys on the right big guys on the left!! You don’t see that? Oh and the one in the rock is the smallest discus and was just confused .

Is that where you feed them.
My group of 4 always hang out at the feed corner.
    Along with 4 adult Altima.

My tank is 220 gal cube - three feet long, wide and height.
After they are get they move all over the place

Seems like he posted several days ago and then lost interest
