huge ph out of the RO unit
hey guys,
I keep having problems breeding discus.. I figured out how to grow them but still cant manage to breed them no matter what I do :P
annyway, since my water is very bad for breeding discus here (tds 450-600) I bought a RO unit to lower TDs. The ro unit works ok.. brings down tds down to 20-30, kh/gh to 1-3, but eggs still turn white after 24h... after deeper checks I saw my PH out of the RO is over 8 (8.3) - tap is 7.8. this high PH is stable even after 24h...
now questions:
1) if everything else is ok and stable (kh/gh/tds) do I really need to aim for low ph aswell in order to breed discus?
2) i kept reading about lowering PH and cant really find a good way to keep it at a certain lvl without risking ph crashes and kill my discus..
thank you

Re: huge ph out of the RO unit
I have my tap around a ph of 8.9 hatching without any problems. Might be that the males has a low sperm count.

My pH was always similar. You have very low tds but what's there is still carbonate. What Cliff said.
