Because loaches are scaleless. The parasite attaches easier.

    That's lousy, Branch
12 years is a pretty good run for loaches, isn't it?

immunity from previous exposure perhaps. Whatever the cause if this were my tank I would do what Brian said that he'd do.

Okay, the practicalities. Maybe I've been lucky over the past 30 years with my tanks as I've never had to break one down therefore I need some guidance from those who have. As I said before I no longer keep hospital/quarantine tanks as my show tank is in my office. I therefore need to consider what to do with the 40 plus Tetras and 2 Dwarf Corys that have not been affected by whatever it was that killed the Discus and Loaches. To save these I have started dosing the tank with Protozin which is malachite green and copper based and my colleague swears by. If after a few weeks there are no further fatalities or signs of infection would it be safe to assume that the treatment has worked. If it is still the general consensus that I should breakdown the tank HOW? Thanks all.

Hi Brian, what would you suggest given my comments above re the existing fish and the Protozin I've dosed the tank with?
