Default Any new/recent information on deworming

Hey everyone! As I continue to research, I've noticed that so many of these threads are a decade+ old. While this is impressive as it shows how long SD has been around:

    1. Information/Opinions change
    2. Studies change
    3. Products change

I am now looking into illnesses in new fish. FYI, I have already seen Al's quarantine procedure thread. Seems like a good plan, but the thread is like 15 years old. I plan on buying all my discus at once (6-8 juvies 2.5"+) and I want to be proactive from the start with healthy fish I do not have any stock in a tank now. The juvies will be placed in a quarantine. For deworming, is praziquantel still a viable solution or is there some other deworming medication recommended?

    Thanks.

Praziquantel is for flatworms (tapes and flukes). You will also need levamisole for round worms like Capillaria.

Al's procedure is what I still use. Others go an extra step and treat a course of metro, which is very easy on discus, but I don't bother with that because hexamita is always present. It's only when discus become stressed or sick that hex takes advantage of a weak immune system. In other words, prazi and Levamisole can treat the entire population in advance of an issue. Metro can treat a whole tank or an individual case by case...

Good advice. Thanks. Great to see an old procedure still in the works. Looks like I know what I'm going to be following when them little buggers finally come.

Where are folks buying levamisol these days? I have some of the AbsoluteWormerPlus, but sold my jar of levamisol I had bought from AngelsPlus about a year ago. They don't seem to carry it anumore. Since I've been buying a few juvies, it might be nice to have available.

The Absolute will work just as well. It also gets flukes.

Thanks Francis and Liz. Levamisol had come up recently in a few posts so I wasn't sure if it was necessary for certain worms.
