Hi all, does anyone here have an actual picture of an 8 (20.32 cm) discus? Like, one showing a ruler, etc.?
What is the biggest discus youve ever seen with an actual measurement?

I pulled my big guy out of the tank to measure him. One of my customers asked. He measured out at 7 3/4" TL. I didn't take a pic, though.

Amazing! Thank you for sharing that. My goal this time around is to get to a full 7 with my latest group. I did have a Stendker get almost there last time.
If you agreed to the rules you're in!
That is easily the largest discus I have seen a picture of, nothing close in person.
Dalatdiscus Huy imports jumbo discus from high end discus breeder Winson Lau from Malaysia. Check out their Facebook pages.

Breeder said on fb that he fed it beef heart! Here’s me running to the store…
Someone posted this to the Simply Facebook group a few days ago. No clue how big it is or if it's a trick of the camera, though.

I had a reflection Deep that got to 8" but photobucket won't let it show; it was in this post. I have the pic saved on my camera. Might post later on. http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showth...light=wayne+ng
The hand is clearly photoshopped there. No way that’s real.
I have no idea if it's real or not. It doesn't look dissimilarly sized to the one earlier in the thread. But... fake stuff abounds on the internet! I don't believe anything I see anymore, honestly.
All the fish pictured are huge fish. But there are a couple of things to keep in mind. The breeders take the best and largest fish they have and feed them with testosterone to make them even bigger. Those are the fish that are sent to shows enabling the breeder to make a name for himself. Unfortunately, this treatment takes a toll on the fish. They don't live very long at all.
The other thing to remember is that total length is not the correct way to measure a Discus. The correct way is from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail. This is called standard length.
The largest fish I have ever seen was a Turk at a NADA show. It was nick named by the attendee The Dinner Plate. Pat might remember it. It took 3rd in it's class. (after all there are things other than size that make a Discus a winner.) When the show was over, John Nicholson netted The Dinner Plate and put a tape on him. He measured out at 6 1/4". So in reality a 6" fish is a very big fish. SL on my big guy was 6". But these days if you say have a 6" fish folks think it's the normal size of an adult Discus.
The problem with using TL is that fish are showing up for sale with longer tail base and longer tails. This takes away from the overall roundness of the body. This is not the case with the fish in the picture. They are all very well balanced.
End of class.
