    Default Aquarium Lids

Hello all! So, I was wondering what everyone uses for aquarium lids. I currently have one of those universal Red Sea kits over my marine tank. After I set it up as my discus tank, I would like to get one of those nice-looking acrylic lids, but I don't know of a good source. I found Clearview Lids online, but the reviews are awful, according to what I saw.

I have to state once again...I live in Japan so availability of some products are very difficult to get here. No matter, because believe it or not, buying something from the US is usually cheaper than here, even with shipping.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks.

    Greg

I don't have fancy lids on my tanks ..just the basics here.. and alot of them have less than the basics but they arent display tanks.

For the usa I would look at glasscages.com. They have been around a long time.

Its a bummer that Japan is expensive for you to source there but I am not surprised.Still there must be some seriously nice tanks and good suppliers there? I think of Japan as an aquarium keeping hot spot in the world.

But maybe something this singapore company ...

Thing with plastic and acrylic is they both bend with heat. So the warm water of a discus tank does bend them. Glass doesn’t bend . But does tend to break.

    Hi Carter,
Can you give more info on the polycarbonate sheets you used? I have toyed with the idea of getting the ones used for greenhouses .
    Thanks,

Thanks for the link Al. There’s a lot of things there of interest. Now just to see if they ship internationally and how much it would cost. I sent them an email.

Thanks to everyone who replied and for all the links. I have glass tops already, but once again, the Japanese way of doing things is a little strange to me. The glass tops are placed on these big ugly brackets (I have a rimless tank) and th glass tops have these cutouts on all 4 pieces that just don’t look nice.

Interesting finding out that the acrylic tends to bow. I thought they’d be made better and stronger. I actually know someone here that cuts glass. I may just go that route and design something better than what I have.

None so far. It's a really sturdy material.
