Thank you Francis. I will check it out just waiting to get clarification to my two questions to Al about levamisole that I posted above. Do you know by chance?

Will levamisole treat both Round and tape worms? If not, why the preference over prazi? Just for my personal Education.

Also, will levamisole affect plecos and Cory’s?

    Al,

About feeding, not sure if it was lost in translation but the main food source are omega one cichlid pellets. I feed them pellets 2x daily + frozen San Francisco Bay and hikari cubes.

    Thank you again

Different medications for different worms treatments.

    Anchor worms(copepod)......Potassium permanganate
    Tapeworms(cestodes)......Praziquantel
    Round worms(nematodes).....Levamisole, Flubendazole or Fenbendazole
    Hexamita /Spironucleus (not a worm but a parasitic flagellate).....Metronidazole
    Metronidazole only treats flagellates.
    Camallanus (nematodes) Levamisole
    Capillaria (nematodes) levamisole or fenbendazole
    Grasshopper

Prazi is extremely effective against tapeworms and very effective as against gill flukes.. it maybe effective against capillaria however levamisole is a better general dewormer..... but I have found its not great against tapeworms...

I cant tell you for sure that you arent feeding enough or that these arent good foods but from what I see in the pics your fish are either not being fed enough or you have a parasite/disease issue thats affecting their ability to absorb nutrients...if they are eating well. Round worms will do that.

As for the foods you are feeding. I dont have direct experience with how well discus do on these items.. I do not have a high opinion of san fran beefheart though. What we can do is suggest food items that discus do seem to thrive on...

I think if you deworm and still have issues.. try changing the diet and amount you feed..

Ps.. be sure to not just look at the forehead .. a discus also shows thinning in the belly region.. it gets a very thin pinched look when they should have a nice thick look.

Good info, it seems levamisole will treat a wider range of worms while prazi is for tapeworms only. So better chance to get rid of a worm problem.

In that case, I am figuring out if levamisole will kill my Cory’s or plecos. I know flubedazole will kill plecos based on what i have read at planet catfish.

    Thank you

If you have round worms in the tank.. its likely all the fish have them.. so you will need to treat all fish ... the corys should be okay with levamisole but I doubt there is a safer option thats as broadly effective .. I can tell you my sterbai were fine with it in my water....but that does not mean all cories will be. As I said earlier.. water parameters can affect absorption .

Thank you, I will use levamisole a try. I found it is safe for plecos.
