Rio Negro DOC Interesting Read
Don’t let the title sway you. Very interesting about DOC’s and water quality of the Rio Negro. “Dissolved organic carbon from the upper Rio Negro protects zebrafish (Danio rerio) against ionoregulatory disturbances caused by low pH exposure.” https://www.nature.com/articles/srep20377

Re: Rio Negro DOC Interesting Read
Steve I have often wondered about the mechanisms that allow those fish living in Very acidic water to survive when they really shouldnt be able to under most circumstances. That article addressed that issue very well.. to think that Dissolved organic carbons (DOCs) could have such a protective role.. it may explain why wild discus kept in soft acidic water often do not survive as long as their wild population counter parts. The focus has always been on acidity and low conductivity.. we have neglected DOCs.
Thanks for a great read.
