    Default Longing for Spring...

I really don't feel like we have had a winter in CT. Its been really mild Actually too mild. I have some cherry trees here that the buds are swelling and leaves are growing. Its not good for February in the North East. This upcoming week they are calling for some wintry mix on several days. Still the light levels are climbing and the birds are starting to sing. My Red wing Blackbird males have return and are starting to stake out sites. These Blackbirds are like clockwork but this year they are a few weeks early. The Males return in late February and then the females shortly after. For me its always the official start of spring.

I thought I would post some spring cheer here..

I rode up the dirt road on my scooter this morning. My cherries are flowering my swamp magnolia is budding up, the elephant ears are sending up sprouts and my gladiolus are up about a foot tall.

We've had 30 degree temperature swings over night from warm to freezing cold. Winter feels worse when you don't have time to get used to it. Humans need to harden off just like plants. But instead of dying back like plants, we tend to hibernate inside.

I need to come your way sometime Al, those cherry blossoms are gorgeous and so are the fox gloves. The larger wading birds are in full tilt breeding prep here. The great blues already have early chicks and the spoonies are not far behind.
