I ran errands today, one of which was to stop by Boe Hog Farm where they gave me a full 10 lbs of free pork heart. I cleaned half and froze half. I'll be making heart tomorrow.

I was chatting with one of the owners of Boe's about what parts of the hog they sell. Some in the Asian community not only eat the heart, because it's good for the heart, they also sell blood to be used as food. They mix the blood with water, add salt and it turns into a gel. It is eaten in recipes but also sometimes just eat a cube of it raw, like jello.

I'll try 'most everything once, but unless I was starving, I'd pass on a cube of raw blood, though. I've been thinking of trying heart, though, I read up a while back on pork kidney since I love kidney stew, but they said the pork kidneys are strong in flavor. I'll try the heart recipe, though. Even braised, I expect it to be tough.

I won't be able to do this until I thaw out the heart from the next batch. The fish food batch had already been prepped for the food processor. I expect it to be tough. I'll let y'all know about the flavor.

Liz its not just the Asian community... Italians do similar. When I was growing up my nonni (grandma) would get a whole pig. The family butchered it and shared the various cuts but by far for me the pudding was the best.. the blood was made into a rich chocolate pudding. ..Sanguinaccio Dolce .It was literally incredible.

    This is pretty close..

One of my fondest childhood memories was coming home from school.. we lived on the 3rd fl.. my nonni was on the first. I would help myself to that big bowl of pudding after school.

Im pretty sure a similar treat is made in the Uk called black pudding.

Very cool, Al. An interview with this guy would make for good reading, especially if it had recipes in it. I've been thinking about his business for a long time. Here he is, in nowhere Mississippi, and he has this great business. I know he ships all over the Southeast. He has a market for every part of the pig, down to the blood. He sells the heart valves to hospitals and trows the pieces of heart in with it when he ships a whole one. I guess the rest of the heart would go to waste otherwise which is hard to believe. There are lots of questions I'd like to ask this guy. An interview would be fun.

Put a hobby to rest today. For years I have tinkered on old generators. I would get them free or dirt cheap on craigslist and I would tear them down, fix them up and sell for a. Reasonable price. I enjoyed.the challenge and the hands on work. I have no training for this.. self taught.
Life challenges cut down my free time and I haven't really had the time to work on generators in awhile.. pre-pandemic. I had quite a few generators in the shed that needed some TLC. Decided to move on. Put a pile of generators at the curb for free. Posted on Craigslist and they were gone in an hour. Made someones day. They either got some serious scrap metal or lots of fun projects.

I will stick to just maintaining what I have now. It was a fun hobby for years and I learned alot but time to move on.

I've always enjoyed giving stuff away. Sometimes it's appreciated and that makes me smile. Some folks will take anything if it's free which I don't understand.

Liz, Me and a buddy of mine who I worked with at a lab years ago would drive around the city and towns during their bulk waste pick ups and we'd load up his truck with disposed of treasure. The things we collected you would not believe. Some things were literally unused. Others needed a quick fix. We would then hold a tag sale and sell the treasure.. We had decent jobs.. it wasnt a money making venture by any means but it was fun. We would laugh our way to the package store and pizza restaurant. Pick up some beer and pizzas and celebrate. Weird huh? Good memories though.

I’m in Charleston SC at the airshow, trying to get some cool photos and enjoying the sweltering day. Currently taking shelter under the wing of a C-17.

Today is another daily water change for the Fry and a bit more culling. I have a difficult time since this is my first time with so many that survived and I don't know if I have the eye for this. They are going on their fourth week and so far they seem healthy. Yesterday was a nice yard day between cutting grass out front and loading the truck with branches and taking them to the Yard and trim facility. Today is the back yard that gets a trim.

Making fish food today. Didn't realize I was out of shrimp mix. Luckily, I took too much shrimp out of the freezer so I'll be eating good myself tonight!!
