So here in Ct we are a hardy bunch. New England breeds some stalwart men and women... 40 degrees with windchills and water spray..no Problem!

Essex has a very nice little park in it, and there are some non-native ornamentals there as well as natives. I came across what I am pretty sure is variety of witch Hazel (Hamamelis) . A flowering shrub that is one of the first to bloom here...its wind pollinated so no need for bees to be active. Witch Hazel bushes are literally where the household astrigent "Witch Hazel" actually came from originally and Connecticut was the Witch Hazel capital of the world for while..
