I've been reading over the years about discus genetics here and it is know to me you shouldn't cross non Pigeon blood's with PB to avoid peppering. Why is this a viable cross?

Do you have a photo or a link to the Red Royal you're referring to? Different sellers can have different names for the discus they sell and the only photo's I'm seeing of a Red Royal shows a version of a Red Turq, which is not PB. That doesn't mean someone else's Red Royal is not a PB.

Crossing a pigeon blood to a non pigeon blood really isnt "non-viable.".It just means that you risk having offspring with peppering. There are many cases where pigeons have been crossed with non-pigeons and the offspring produce very good fish.. white butterflies are a prime example. Alot also depends on the genetics of the pigeon blood. Most pigeon bloods sold now have been bred to have as little pepper as possible and have been bred tofish like goldens which again decreased the peppering. Im really not sure the old entrenched guide of not crossing pigeons with non Pigeons is as valid as it used to be because our pigeons today are very different than the pigeons were 10-20+ years ago.

Red Royal looks Just like a red melon but with a more intense red.
