I'm alittle Loony about these Birds

Common loon (Gavia immer)

Last summer, I had taken a canoe out on Lake Placid/East Lake, NY so I could get close to loons and spend some time watching and photographing these beautiful birds. I am very tempted to return. Taking photos on a windy lake from a free floating canoe is probably the most challenging images I have ever taken. I literally would paddle up current from them and drift down to them , often only finding they had swum under water hundreds of feet away, It was a long afternoon with lots of blurry missed shots, but it was also extremely memorable. Such a beautiful bird and to have the haunting songs they sing going on as well in different parts of the lake was incredible. The Black one is the adult the brown is its chick.

These are gorgeous and one day I hope to get a change to photography them. Very interesting the parent only shows it's head above water to feed the chick. Are you planning to doing this again Al?

I may Pat.. It was my 3rd trip there, I went too early first time two times.. mid to end of August was the 3rd time and was perfect timing,
