    Default Poor little Birdy...

I heard a little Bird frantically calling for help this morning in the yard. A chipping Sparrow chick had fallen out of the nest or left it just a tad too soon. The Little one is just about ready to fly, most feathers are there and it can hop around and kind of fly but whether it was a mental thing and it just thought it could not fly or really could not I do not know. Sometimes they are just lazy and still want mom and dad to feed them. The Little one was definitely not happy. The area it is in is pretty densely covered but we have a ton of predators here. I did not see a nest but even if I did I would not try and put it back.. why? Because if I fuss with the nest I might show a predator where it is, or I might spook the parents into abandoning the nest or worse, scare other chicks out of it. Best bet for this little one is ignore it... Mom and Dad will still take care of it and will lead away predators.

Great pics, Al. You got the entire sequence. I hope the sweet little thing makes it.

Cool photo's. I miss my sparrows since I repaired my kitchen storm window, lol...

I was walking the dog in the park a few days ago and I saw a piebald Robin. I'd never seen such a thing. I'll take my phone with me next time and if I see it I'll snap some photo's...

I'd love to see that, Brian. We had 2 pied spawns this year. We know the mother, because there were triplets and this doe has triplet fawns every year. Every one in the neighborhood has been instructed that the mama and the pied babies, a doe and a buck, were totally off limits to hunters.

Nice capture. In two or three days it'll be flying well; they grow up fast. I've seem a lot of fledglings leave they nests before they could fly well.
