Diagnosis and Medication Recommendations... White "splotches"

1. Please explain the problems with your fish. When did you notice the problems and did anything unusual happen that you think started them?
See picture. The problem started from having to move the affected fish from a temporary 40 gallon, to it's 75 gallon home. I'm assuming the onset is due to stress. I am looking for help in diagnosing this and the proper medication to use. He is homed in the 75 with 5 other discus and two bristlenose plecos.

2. Symptoms (i.e. turning dark, excess slime, not eating, clamped fins, flashing, darting, clamped gills, white/yellow/green poop, hiding, headstanding or tailstanding, white on tips of fins, rotting or fungus, blisters/white zits on fish, bloated, cloudy eyes, wounds).
White splotches, staring at he corner, darkening, not eating.

Other fish have been starting to "flash", dart, and generally seem unsettled in the tank.

3. What medications/ treatments have you already tried and what were the results. Include dosage and duration of treatment.
None as of yet.


Tank/Water

4. Tank size and ages, numbers and sizes of fish.
75 gallon, 6-8 months old, 6 discus and 2 bristlenose plecos.

5. Water change regime (What percentage and how often).
40-50% weekly, with a 10-15% change mid week.

6. How long has tank been running? Is it bare bottom? If you have substrate, what type and how deep is it?
6-8 months. Planted tank, with Fluval Stratum substrate. 2-3 inches deep.

7. Do you age your water? If you do for how long and what is the ph swing.
Unaged. pH sits 6.8-7.2.

8. What type/brand water conditioner do you use? Do you add it to the tank or aging barrel? How much do you use?
API Stress Coat to the tank at water change. Recommended amount. 10ml per 20 gallons

9. Parameters and water source;

Note: Water Parameters are important in diagnosing problems within a tank. If you don't own test kits for the following information, you can purchase them, test your parameters and post this info as soon as possible.

Vibra Bites 2x daily and beefheart from Jack Wattley in the evenings. I supplement with frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp on occasion.

Can you post pics of the other fish in thd tank? Distinct patvhes like that are often from a protozoan called costia.

Al was wanting to see photo's of the other fish in the tank as well.

Curious, was the 40g sterilized? I wonder if something was transmitted during their time in the temporary tank...

Ahh.. got it. Other tank was brand new set up for temp quarantine. It was cycled, with 0/0/10 and a pH of 7. Temp at ~85°F. Other fish are now showing signs of irritation. I'm 100% positive it is a fungal infection, as the Blue Diamond has developed a white fuzz on the splotch. Attaching picture of the others floating near the surface, you can see what appears to be a white film on the fish. LFS recommended treating the tank with Kanaplex.

Sorry, misread your question. This fish is roughly 2 months in my aquarium.

By the images , I believe you have a protozoan infection. It could be costia ..possibly and/or Oodinium (velvet) where are you located? Do you have access to seachems polyguard?

I am in Michigan in the US. I can get Polyguard. I'd have to research which medications I can get with Malachite Green. If you have recommendations, I can look into it.

Great.. wasnt sure seachem would availible to you.. My suggestion is start with the polyguard... its broad spectrum and Should work here ...if it doesnt I would switch to something with more malachite green.. the API Super Ick Cure Powder Francis posted would be a good option.

Products with formalin and malachite green ..often called FMG are excellent for protozoan problems and usually are availible through koi supply sites.. the downside is they can be rough on fish with open sores... but sometimes its worth the risk.

Try the poly guard first though.

Thanks! Dosed the Polyguard tonight. Pretty sure the Blue Diamond won’t make it through the night. It’s gone white and floating around surface, gasping.

Running the treatment for the others, though.
