    Default Philadelphia Images

Spent a few days in Philadelphia soaking in the history there. It was my first visit and have to say its one very lively and interesting place. Took in many historical sights and visited some various other locations and touristy things. I will post a bunch here to start off. You may know that I am mostly into birds, wildlife, and macro. I am most comfortable with taking those images. This trip I did a little of that but mostly wanted to challenge myself to try to do something different.... Street Photography Still life , and architecture. These are a very different type of photography than wildlife photography and for me, its very challenging. Hope you enjoy them.

Part of the challenge is I really don't have very good lens for this type of photography, you can't exactly walk around town with a huge birding lens very easily and you really want a wide angle lens or at least something like a 28 mm.. most of these images are either using an old tokina 19-35mm lens or a 18-300 sigma. Both lens can be good and can be not so good..Its a trade off with zoom lens especially ones that don't cost a small mortgage.. The 19-35 mm tokina costs about $80 on ebay..not exactly talking top quality glass!.

These are all Black and white conversions from Color Images...

Al, I think you caught some really nice images of city life etc and the B&W suits the subject matter. I am with you on being out of the comfort zone regarding street photography etc but I have and will continue to shoot outside my comfort zone. It that your son in the sixth photo?

We did! I also had a Philly cheese steak and tried their Pizza. Cannoli was great... the cheese steak was ok but not to my liking as much as some we have here in CT. The Pizza .. well that was by far the worst I have ever had.Sorry Philly pizza Fans... but until you have New Haven Style CT Pizza you guys are just eating bread dough with sauce. An Italian in CT is just too much of a pizza snob to like Philly Pizza ! Its hard to find a bad pizza place out here where I am. Honestly I should not knock on Philly's Pizza... my bar is just way higher..

Philly cheese steak is greatly overrated, but the Italian bakeries... Looks like you hung around Second Street.

My wife and I just booked a trip back there to visit the old neighborhood and our friends. Will also partake the stunning foliage in Valley Forge in October.
At my age, everything is irritating.
