Hi All,
I have recently started browsing the forum. Not exactly new here. I am returning, after a 11-12 years break.
Last I have kept discus and was active in this forum was back in 2009-2012. I was amazed that I was able to dig up my old post after I logged in! Wow!
A lot has changed in these 10 or so years. Currently located out of Richmond, Virginia, I am thinking of restarting my old passion of keeping discus.
Glad that this forum survived the age of tiktok and youtube shorts.
Thank you.
Thank you,
Sandip

Thank you Al.
I am thinking of starting a 75 gallon with 8 discus or a 55 ish gallon with 5 discus. I browsed through the forum sponsors looking for Kenny. Then I read the post and felt heartbroken. I always thought if I ever got back to the hobby in US, I would start by getting discus from Kenny's. Great loss to the hobby.
I will take some time to get the tank, need wife's buy-in. Do a fishless cycle using ammonia. When everything is ready, will source from one of the sponsors from here. Even though it is tempting to get full size discus. But I think, the fun is in growing out babies. I will start with 3-4" fish. Bare-bottom tank. Cannister filter with the flow turned down. I plan to change 30% water every alternate or so day to grow them fast. With busy life, I cannot change more than that.
I will start a build thread when everything is ready. Wish me luck.
Thank you,
Sandip

Sent a PM as I am possibly moving out-of-state this year.
Wow! It's been a long time, but once the bug bites it never really goes away. Welcome back!
It's been a long time since we've upgraded this forum, and one of the big reasons is that we don't want to loose so many valuable contributions into the either while switching to something more user friendly. I know nothing about tech, but I understand that's it hard not to loose things. (admins, please slap my hand if I got this all wrong)
Do you have a particular strain or type you like? We have several sponsors bring in good Discus now. Two of them get their stock from Kenny. Spots and reds now are all the rage now, so if that's what turns you on, you have it made.

Welcome back!
Excited to watch your tank progress
Welcome back, I just got back to the forum as well after about 14 years. I am getting ready to get back into discus again but will wait to purchase them once the wife and I are back from our 2 week trip at the end of September. Right now purchasing tanks and equipment again to get back into it. Also will be doing a tank less cycle with ammonia and live bacteria to speed up the process.
