Re: Brown algae affecting my discus?
It also depends on the hardness or softness of the water on the amount you use and also the temps above 82f could have a higher up take. I would think that young discus below 82 slows their metabolism/appetite. The drug has been around for years but there are safer parasite meds out they for fish kept in warmer water and varying hardness.

Re: Brown algae affecting my discus?
Morning Tom, Mervin
Thank you for your replies..
All is well this morning, all discus alive & eating. I tested the water this morning to make sure it was ok after the chaotic water change, clean & filter media washing yesterday. The results are good.
Still no flashing to report. The discus seem to be growing despite all that is going on, slowly but surely.

Great news on the absence of flashing! Water metrics look good.

Re: Brown algae affecting my discus?
Thanks Frank
Still no flashing from any of the discus (I don't think I will need to re-dose), I will be doing another water change in the next hour, and cleaning the bottom of the tank again as there is still medication residue everywhere.
Can anyone tell me please, as there is no instructions on the bottle, do I need to put carbon in the tank on day 7 to remove the medication or does the water changes do that? Day 7 is Monday coming...
Thanks!

How much water are you changing? Strange that the meds are still showing in the tank.

Re: Brown algae affecting my discus?
Hi Tom,
50% water changes each time, that medication just wont go away off the bottom of the tank, its heavy, the syphon cant pick it up, I have to use a fish net to scoop up what I can!

Seem like an inefficient way to add meds. How does it work if just sitting on the bottom and not melting into the water? Are the fish suppose to eat it?

Re: Brown algae affecting my discus?
I honestly have no idea, I'll never use that medication again.
I have just added a small cycled filter that has carbon in it to the discus tank to remove any medication that is left in the water.... Today is day 6...
