This next set is kinda of Funny. We have a Purple Martin Sanctuary in the state park near me and every year the Martins fly in for the summer, raise chicks and migrate south again at summers End. The chicks have left the nest and the parents are currently teaching them how to hunt. This particular set of chicks is waiting on their parents to bring them food. One does... and its a huge Dragon Fly!

Went to the beach for sunset the day before yesterday and it was a bust... sunset was beautiful but there was a hatch of biting flies... everyone on the beach had their legs wrapped in blankets to prevent the flies from biting ankles. We decided to ditch the beach and drive around the park... took a few shots as the light faded.

Normally when I am out and about at my favorite park, I rarely run into other bird watcher photographers. However, I can always tell when someone posts a rare bird alert on ebird....

They just come out of the woodwork when that happens... This time it was for a group of 5 migrating Whimbrel that stopped by to refuel.

Sometimes a birds internal clock gets all messed up and they do things they normally wouldn't.. Like Build nests at the wrong time of year.

Saw this Osprey Building a nest, in SEPTEMBER. Definitely not going to raising anymore chicks this season. Most of its kin have already migrated south for the winter.

    Gray catbird (Dumetella carolinensis)

Every year I look forward to when our Cat birds return from their winter migration and I miss them when depart in the fall. They are fueling up now for the trip south.

There are so many cool birds out there and though its neat to see rare ones... I get just as much pleasure out seeing our more common plain ones... like this Savannha sparrow..

I can always count on them to come out of the bushes and check out what I am doing.
