Default New Tank and first time for Discus

Hello, and thank you for the encouragement in trying these fish. I have wanted to for a long time. I took Al's advice and I'm going to start with 50/50 RO and Tap. The sand is a Carib Sea that is PH neutral and does not buffer the water at all. Went with Acrylic latex paint for the back in Pool blue. I have several pothos cuttings hanging from the "potho carry" holders I bought. A large heater that has it's own controller and plugged into an Inkbird controller as well for double safety. The inkbird is set for 84 degrees and the heater controller is at 83. Filtration is a Marineland 360 canister and 2 large sponge filters to also help with oxygen content. 75 gallon tank, recently cycled and I just added some fish yesterday as a cleaning crew. 8 captive bred Sterbai Cory's, and 1 L136 pleco (Angelicus pleco ). All the fish purchased are captive bred locally as to remove as much concern about parasites. Now, I need to decide on a few plants and where to get my Discus from?

    Any thoughts? Suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Dave

Dave, looks like a nice beginning! As to where to get your discus... I would reach out to our sponsors first and see if they have anything you might be interested in. They are a really good group of sellers.

I picked up 6 to start with. I don’t have a preference on “type” I just love the colors. So, I got 6 and I’m already in love ! Here’s the tank currently. Just got them on Sunday. Eating well and seem to be acclimating just fine…I’ll post a few pics. IMG_0865.jpeg

I got them from Exotic Discus LLC here in Illinois. They are roughly 3.5” size. Feeding on freeze dried black worms, frozen brine, frozen blood worms, Cobalt discus flake, vibra bites. Trying to keep them on a variety.

Hey Dave - how are your fish doing? Looks like that supplier has some nice fish!
