Hey all,
I've been reading the great information here for some time, but happened
across this post a few moments ago - so in the spirit of community and getting involved thought I'd make a quick introduction.
My dad had an aquarium in the 70's, and small tropical community in a little home made tank, in which I remember us having black mollies, and a couple of Angels. It ran using an under gravel filter, I seem to remember the fish were prone to Ich and often the tank was brightly coloured as a result of some treatment that he'd added. Times of course change, but the bug must have set inside me, as I setup my own tank as a teenager and with some breaks in-between, have mostly always had a tank on the go.
The majority of my fishkeeping has been with Central and South American Cichlids, and I remember back then I used to travel to aquarium shops the length and breath of the country - being excited to see 1 or 2 species. I can still remember the first Uaru I saw in the flesh, or the first Jaguar.
Having been without a tank for a while, a few months ago I started to get the itch again, and started to plan out what I see some people now refer to as a 'trophy' tank. Having decided that I'd finally try my hand at Discus, I made the choice to go all in - buy right, buy once.
So wind forward and I am now the proud owner of 8 beautiful Stendker discus, bought from a specialist here in the UK that still had some of the last stocks. They are housed in a 325l (86 usg) tank fitted with a sump.
Over the coming weeks and months - if interested - I'm happy to share the journey and some photos too.
Thanks all for the fantastic resource and helpful information.
Nodder.
