Simplyduckweed.com!! Tears coming down my eyes! I was just reading in disbelief somebody we trust telling us “hey look how I’m helping my duckweed”!! Is it April fools day? WHAT!!

Yeah and Jacob don’t think I didn’t catch that misery love company statement! “Dwarf water lettuce is so much better”. Everybody knows that comes with duckweed!! Ha ha I caught ya!!

Yeah I traded shrimp with another forum member. I threw in some susswassertang he threw in some dwarf water lettuce. 40+ yrs I’ve avoided this stuff. Both my shrimp tanks are now covered in duckweed. Yes it’s everywhere!! Dogs are looking at me crossly cause its in their water dish. Does tell you how stuff moves on your hands though.

I separated my dwarf water lettuce from duckweed. It's possible. I took hardware cloth submerged ALL of my dwarf water lettuce and then rinsed it for close to an hour while agitating the submerged stuff. Duckweed floated up and out of the bucket. Worked pretty well. Damaged/killed a lot of water lettuce, but that stuff is pretty tough. I'd certify my dwarf water lettuce to be duckweed free, actually. But if it comes from a tank with duckweed, yes, the water lettuce is like a mother hen. It covers and protects it. Duckweed even lives submerged seemingly forever. A lot of other floaters if condensation drips on them twice they die. Duckweed is like "Oh, we live under water now? Ok. Here's 45 clones."

Funny at first I thought the duckweed was just little water lettuce and let it grow! That’s where it all began. Yes submerged and like starfish all you need is a little piece to find hundreds more after you rub your eyes. It multiplies faster than anything I know. I’d give up removing it but it will cover the tanks! Every time I remove it I’ve got to put it in a bucket and shake as many of the shrimp out as I can too. They seem to hang on the roots.

I was able to eliminate it with the aggressive rinsing described above and then DAILY and I mean DAILY... sometimes twice a day. Me and a pair of tweezers picking out anything that looked like it might be duckweed. Including the "dead" white duckweed. That's it's most desperate form and it turned that color to fool you into thinking it's already dead so that you'll leave it alone. It's not dead, it's waiting.

You guys crack me up.. just do daily water changes and suck it off the tank surface . Sure it reproduces fast but not that fast! Im practically splitting my sides laughing at the fear one little plant has over you guys. Its duck weed ...a plant. Nothing more.

Still I have to give it credit.. a little tiny plant has inspired almost a cockroach like fear among aquarists.

Truthfully its really only an issue in planted tanks and has zero negative impact on any non-planted tanks. .. unless of course someone actually can teach me otherwise. Realistically its an insanely efficient water purifer.

Before Al knows it, it'll be in the tank itself so flushing will only result in a deluge of duckweek.

Funny, that's the same view his discus pairs are going to have about 5 months from now. One day, there won't be any duckweed. The next day, complete blackout at the top.

Well, I guess I know what to do with the big bag of duckweed I just fished out of my tanks that the goldfish didn’t take care of… salad!!
