attude change in pair

I had a pair in a 75 with 3 other discus. They were always together taking care of the eggs and constantly chasing the other fish away
from the eggs. So to give them some peace and privacy I moved into a 40 tank. This was a week ago and since then they seem totally
uninterested in each other.
Is this normal and in time regain their old "friendship"?
