    Default Old gear

I'm a camera junkie...I admit it..I have alot of gear, I love photography. Not just taking pictures but the whole enchilada.. Old gear to me is just amazing to use. Sure, new gear is fun too. But old gear is like a classic car. It still does what it was meant to do. Cameras get more and more complicated and advanced with each year and model. And the price tag goes up and up. Camera shops want you to spend the big bucks . Theres a saying in Photography that I absolutely hate. Its that
" getting a new camera or lens won't make you better pics, its not the gear its the photographer. "
Thats Bunk. My current lens and cameras are many time better than my older gear..they better be as they cost $$$$ more. But that doesn't mean the basic expression is wrong..Its not. Old Gear still takes great images and at a fraction of cost.

So I decided to post some old gear shots.

My favorites.. Pentax K10D a 10 Megapixal camera using a CCD sensor. ( virtually all dslrs and Mirrorless cameras now use CMOS--cheaper and easier to make these) This camera was released in 2006. 17 years old. I still use it..it has a cult following because of its sensor.

When I decided to become a dual system shooter, I chose Nikon as my Second system. After decades of Pentax I wanted to get a feel for Nikon's product line...so over a few years I picked up used Nikon gear. D60, D80, D200, D300, D7100, D7200, D7500, and D500. I wanted to understand the camera line like I do Pentax,

The D200 is a gem. Its the equivalent of my beloved Pentax K10D. It too is CCD sensor...all future Nikons DSLRs used CMOS. It was released in 2005 , actually a year older than the K10D, but considered more advanced. It has more bells and whistles than the k10D and a better AF system..but it shares that beautiful CCD sensor.
The D200 was my gateway drug into Nikons.

These images are just a sampling of what "Old Cameras" can do. I hear people all the time say they want a new camera. Nothing wrong with that, but just be sure to ask yourself do you actually "Need" a New Camera. Are you really at the point where you mastered the one you have? But what ever you do, don't pay any attention to someone telling you your camera is too old or an antique as if that makes a difference in what it can do.

Al... you said it all... it's doesn't matter what's under the hood. The only thing that matters is who's behind the wheel

I spent some time this morning with the D200 on my long lenses... Backyard birds this time of year are great to practice technique on so you can make the most of what ever gear you have.
