    Default Discus names

I know importers have a million names for the same fish. It’s a marketing ploy and it frankly drives me nuts. Can someone explain the difference between a leopard snakeskin, eruption, panthera, super panthera, Sakura panthera, the list goes on and on….

It's just a color or pattern or lineage. A breeder can call a new look/strain anything.

It is confusing and frustrating. Breeders are always trying to enhance or refine their product. As they do, they want more money so they change the name, which is perfectly acceptable. Unfortunately, there are many sellers who capitalize on a new name use it as a tool to raise the price of an old line. Super Panthera is a classic example.

All the discus you mentioned are LSS but it's the refinement that changes the name. That's why I call my Meteor x Ruby Red - Meteor x Ruby Red, lol... Because I have no idea what they'll be until I see a fully grown fish and the percentage they produce.

I can explain it. One has spots and the others do as well.

I understand the frustration Mike .. I tend to just call them leopards .or leopard snakeskins.. but each breeder / seller will customize that and make unique names... and some get pretty uptight if called out on it. Part of the problem stems from the variable degree of spotting and body gill coverage of spots.
