Yes this happens in tanks with many choices for the male. I had one male with 2 different females going at the same time. Eggs within 12” from each other.
Hello all. I had a pair that successfully had a batch and am currently growing approximately 45 fry out. They are 6 weeks old now. The parents started to squabble so but a divider in their breeding tank and separated the male. It's a 50 gallon acrylic tank and the bow in the tank did not work for the divider and they shared joint custody of the fry lol. At 4 weeks I put the parents back in with my other discus and they seemed to patch it up. Tonight I see the male has a new gal, they're doing the shimmy dance and cleaning off a plant leaf. Is this common? Not sure why they would do this as they were all together months ago. Curious what you all think.

Well I was right. They have layed eggs, not sure how blue diamond x red panda fry will look.
Going to be interesting!

Yes the red panda has some peppering20231220_185906.jpg sorry best picture I have right now
I used to be of the opinion that crossing pigeon to non-pigeon was not a good thing and resulted in dirty, peppered fry. I still think its a cross that one should avoid unless they are prepared for very poor looking fry... However, I have seen enough examples now of fry turning out very nice from that cross that I think its worth the risk to grow them out and see. Hopefully they turn out nice. Pigeon blood genetics have changed alot over the years... they tend to be out crossed alot to reduce peppering.
Hopefully yours fall into that category of turning out nice... only way to know is to try it and see.
Good luck!

I honestly doubt any fry will make it as they are in my discus community tank. My other pair bred 7 times unsuccessfully until I moved them into their own tank. At the moment I'm out of tanks to move them to. Have a batch of fry growing out in a tank and waiting for quarantine to put all my discus together in the big tank. I see now how mts can take over quickly. Thank you for your response, really enjoying this forum.
Well all eggs were gone after I fed them breakfast this morning. Which is ok as not ready for another batch right now. Sure there will be another time and i know I can put them in different tank by themselves when a tank opens up
