Cool weather in New England

This time of year in my area is kind of challenging for wildlife images. The flowers and bugs are sleeping, The fall migration is over. Its cold, wet at times and grey..Its down right depressing. I have to work really hard to get bird shots and most are over wintering ducks or back yard birds. Still though theres plenty to shoot if you look. Heres a hodge podge collection from the last 2 months at various locations in my area.

The next few shots are from New Years Day, 2024. Taken at Light House Park, New Haven CT. The temp is about 40 F..Ocean temp is 44F. I have seen many strange things while taking pics.. this one was probably the oddest scene. Not what you expect to see on Jan 1 in a CT Ocean.

I'd like to say that the Girl was participating in the Polar plunge where you run in with a mass of people, freeze a min and run out, but that was not the case here. She was in the water 10 mins at a time and went in several times to her head. Incidentally thats not a bathing suit and she had nothing but her coat, jeans and no towel, The guy with her is her dad I think. Personally I think a few parenting screws fell loose.

Thanks Pat. I would too. Its one of the things I like about taking picture of people out and about. "Whats the back story?"

Like the guy with the spear. Was he a homeless person looking for a meal or just someone thats been hurt by others.

The couple on the breaker... "locals or possibly tourists for the Holiday?'


What about the guy on the boat..." checking his stocks?" Or maybe "working remotely"- sweet job that would be.. remote by boat.

Al, my guess the guy with the spear could have been crab hunting based on his location

Its possible Pat.. if he was though he probably would be dissapointed.. our blue crab season ended last month and with the current temps They are buried in the sand by now. Green grabs(a naturalized species here from over seas are still around.. they are smaller but if I was hungry I would eat them.

I was thinking that maybe he was looking for clams and mussels. That area has alot of them and you would need something to pry them. That area is definitely not where I would collect and consume bivalves.... its not the cleanest area and filter feeders bio-accumulate toxins.. but I guess if ones hungry its a risk to take.

Talk about cool weather. Woke up this am to 13 inches of snow and as of 9:45 still coming down.
Got to love Nort'n. Ct. in the winter. Right.

Wow! We got 3 " maybe.. probably get a few more with the second wave. Amazing what a difference an hour distance .in CT makes.

BTW. we just got our power back.Started smoking ribs on my pellet smoker
that lasted about 1/2 hr. There is always tomorrow.
