I have a 110 gallon tank, 6 adult discus, 2 cories and 1 bushy nosed pleco. The discus have been in the tank for almost 18 months. I want add something to liven the tank up a bit. I am debating on adding 3 discus or something smaller like rams. I am looking for some suggestions.

    thanks,
    jim

I think more cories would provide some action. They seem more social the more there are.

Agreed, also consider a group of loaches, smaller than clown, something like Yoyo or zebra.
Rams are entertaining and black rams would look good in your tank, given your lack of cover, probably a pair only
A variety of tetras have been used, maybe overused.
I intend to go with smaller rainbows and see how they work as schooling dithers, as opposed to the usual cardinals.

Also would get a few more discus. With your water changes if you added everything I mentioned you would not be overstocked and I would bet your nitrates would still be below 10

Cories definitely. I would also suggest some German rams to liven up the mid-water level.
At my age, everything is irritating.

    Jim,
Question for you.Is there a reason why you went with a coral /marine background? Greek/Roman Submerged ancient city theme? Its just an impression of mine, but it seems to clash and hide your Discus. I'm wondering if part of the goal of Livening it up a bit might not also be met by trying a different background. One that shows off the Discus and other fish more? Just a thought.

Yes I’m with Al on this. Your decoration is not helping the fish. Cories would have a hard time in there. They tend to like caves as do loaches. I’d add a peice of driftwood into the column. Maybe where the broken column is. This will give the fish something to go under. What’s the square glass thing I the front left?

I used the columns to give the discus somewhere to hide, as it were. they love swimming in and out of it. and the pleco loves hiding under it. i have a darker back ground that i am going to change to.

i am going to add another cave on the left hand side of the tank for the cories, they do hide in the bottom of the breeding cone. the glass vase is there to prevent the sand flying all over the place when i do a water changed. i use a python hook that sits right over the vase.

    thanks for the replies...

I built a PVC refill hook with its own shutoff valve and then another 90 degree so that it doesn't blast straight down. It works pretty well to break up the flow so it doesn't blast up all the substrate.
