Default Keeping deep substrate of around 3 to 4 is inches

Is keeping a deep sand bed very well rinsed river sand a good idea in discus aquarium. The deep bed would have so much bacteria in them after few months a watching discus taking a small mouthful of river sand and spitting it out would look wonderful with few cories and juvenile geophagus.

Hi Ganesan, best to keep a sand bed less then two inches. Sometimes with a deep sand bed it can trap pockets of gas which if disturbed can have a negative affect on the fish. Best to stir the sand with a siphon to help keep it clean. I generally use sand beds at a 1/2 or so.
